Since it’s so famous and wealthy, many people might wonder whether Ford owns any other companies. So, is that the case for this huge manufacturer?

Similar to other huge automobile manufacturers, Ford also owns other companies. Most notably, Ford has acquired Lincoln Motor Group Company, which produces and sells a famous luxury car line. Besides that, Ford also holds shares in several other companies, including Aston Martin and Jiangling Motors.

Most automobile vehicles sold by the Ford company are marketed under the name Ford. But this car manufacturer also owns Lincoln Motor Company, which sells luxury cars. Ford acquired Lincoln Motor Company back in 1922, making it one of its divisions.

In addition to that, Ford owns stakes in several other companies. For instance, Ford has an 8% stake in Aston Martin (the British car manufacturer) and a 32% stake in Chinese Jiangling Motors. 

Ford also fully acquired Brazil’s Troller in 2007. This company is renowned for its off-road vehicles, such as Troller T4. 

Just like most other automobile manufacturers, Ford also has other joint ventures and projects with other companies.

It works with Changan Ford, Ford Lio Ho, AutoAlliance Thailand, Ford Otosan, and Ford Sollers, which are all located in various countries across the globe.

Aside from other companies, Ford also owns several other brands: Ford Blue, Ford Credit, Ford Drive, and Ford Pro.

In 2008, Ford sold its ownership of Jaguar and the Land Rover to Tata Motors. It also no longer works with Volvo, even though it’s been part of the company from 1999 to 2010.

Additionally, Ford also suspended Mercury in 2011. Mercury was a division of Ford that used to produce.

Ford is most known for its Ford F-series, which is its most-selling truck, particularly in the United States. This also means that the most commonly sold type of automobile vehicle by ford is trucks.

Ford mainly produces automobile vehicles and doesn’t have many ventures that don’t include them, even with other companies.

Does Ford own Jaguar?

Many people commonly think that Ford owns Jaguar; this makes sense since Ford used to be the owner of this company. But Ford actually sold Jaguar to Tata Motors back in 2008. The same goes for Land Rover, which he used to own since 2000.

Ford has stated that it chose to sell Jaguar since it was losing money in the United States. 

Is Ford owned by Tata Motors?

As mentioned before, Ford isn’t owned by any corporations. So, this means that Tata Motors isn’t the parent company of Ford, even though some people might think so.

The confusion often stems from the fact that Tata Motors has been the parent company of Land Rover and Jaguar Cars after Ford parted ways with them. As a result, some people might think that these two companies share ownership, which isn’t the case.

In reality, Volvo has, in fact, been owned by Ford from 1999 to 2010. After this period, Ford sold Volvo to Geely Automobile – a huge automotive company with headquarters in China.

Just like with Jaguar cars, Ford executives have explained Ford’s decision to sell Volvo, citing that it was creating a major financial loss for the Ford Motor Group.


Just like other top-selling automobile manufacturers, Ford owns several companies and holds stakes in many others. Through that, Ford is able to make a profit, not just as a result of selling automobile vehicles.

Ford has also owned some companies and brands in the past, with which it has cut ties in the past years. But considering that the company still has stocks on the market, this might change in the future.
